Wall collapse kills worker

CHITTAGONG: A construction worker was killed and three others, including two schoolboys, were injured when the boundary wall of a colony collapsed on them near Afgan Mosque in Dewan Bazar area of the city yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Farid.
Witnesses said the old boundary wall of the colony fell on them while some workers were repairing the wall at about 10am, leaving two workers and two schoolboys critically injured. Later, the injured were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared Farid dead.
Officer-in-charge of Bakalia Police Station Mohammad Mohsin confirmed the death.
Meanwhile BSS adds: Police in a overnight special drives arrested 99 people, including three activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, from different parts of Chittagong district from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning.
District police seized two LG guns, one round cartridge and 22 liters liquor during the drives. Mohammad Naimul Hasan, additional superintendent of police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district confirmed the matter to BSS. Among the arrestees, two activists are from Jamaat and one from Shibir, he added.
