10th Founding Anniversary of Bangla Wikipedia Observed at DIU
The 10th Founding Anniversary of Bangla Wikipedia was observed recently at Daffodil International University (DIU) through daylong gala events, says a press release. Wikimedia Bangladesh, a local organisation of Wikimedia Foundation that conducts the Wikipedia activities in Bangladesh, organised one decade celebration programme in association with Daffodil International University at DIU Auditorium.
State Minister for ICT Division, Junaid Ahmed Palak, MP, inaugurated the programme as the chief guest. Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University, was present as the special guest. Munir Hassan, President, Wikimedia Bangladesh, presided over the programme. The programme was moderated by Nurunnabi Chowdhury Hasib, Director, Wikimedia Bangladesh.
Addressing as the chief guest State Minister for ICT Division, Junaid Ahmed Palak said, Our youths are our proud and our youths are not behind in respects of merit and wisdom, rather they need a platform to explore their dreams and Bangla Wikipedia is such a platform to explore their hidden treasures to enrich the repertory of knowledge and wisdom of Bangla Wikipedia. Modern technology has enhanced the repertory of knowledge and wisdom within our reach, he added.
He expressed his best support to accelerate the activities of Bangla Wikipedia more through joint campaign programme of WikiMedia Bangladesh and ICT Division in 118 universities of the country and in 64 districts.
Day-long programme included seminar and workshops for volunteers and contributors on enriching data, article editing and posting pictures in the Wikipedia. Ali Haider Khan Tonmoy, Treasurer, Nahid Sultan, Director and member of Wikimedia Bangladesh- Shabab Mustafa, Nasir Khan Saikat, Tanveer Morshed conducted the programmes. The volunteers of Bangla Wikipedia of Kolkata, India participated in the programme. Best picture winner and best Wikipedians were awarded in the programme. Countrys renowned writer Anisul Haque distributed prizes among the winners at the closing and award distributing ceremony. Professor Dr. S. M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Dean, Faculty of Science and IT, and Munir Hassan, president, Wikimedia Bangladesh, were also present at the closing ceremony.
Earlier, to mark the 10th Founding Anniversary of Bangla Wikipedia special Wikipedia Editors Gathering was held in Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Rajshahi, Barisal, Sylhet and Rangpur where different techniques to add data in Bangla Wikipedia were trained and discussed.
Orientation Programme Held at IUB
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) recently organised an orientation programme of the 3rd batch of Masters in Climate Change and Development on its own campus in the capital, according to a press release. The event was organised by the Department of Environmental Management under the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESM).
At the orientation programme the address of welcome was given by Professor Haroun-Er-Rashid, Head of Department of Environmental Management. The Dean of SESM, Professor M Ali Hossain also welcomed the participants. The function was also attended by Professor K. B Sajjadur Rasheed, Professor Shahnaz Huq Hussain, Professor Mushfiq-us-Salehin, Professor S. M. Manzoor Rashid, Ina F. Islam of International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) and other faculty members of SESM. The Masters programme is supported by ICCCAD.
