JU gives PhD to 19 researchers, MPhil to 4
Nineteen researchers obtained PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) and four others MPhil (Masters of Philosophy) degrees from Jagangirnagar University (JU).
The decision was taken at a meeting of the university syndicate on May 24 with JU Vice Chancellor Farzana Islam presiding, said an official release of the university.
Those who got PhD are-- Mohammad Nure Alam Siddique and Muhammad Nazrul Islam of Mathematics department, Shamsun Nahar of Pharmacy department, Morium Akhter of Computer Science and Engineering department, Fouzia Huq of Botany department, Md Mehedi Mahbub Khan and Md Arshad Hossain Chowdhury of Chemistry department, Md Zahangir Alam, Md Abdul Jalil and Bibhutibhushon Mitra of Zoology department, Md Alamgir Hossain of Environment Science department, Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Khan and Sikander Ali Bhuiyan of Archeology department, Md Forkan Mia, Md Rezaul Karim, Nazmun Nahar, Mohammad Altaf Hossain of Government and Politics department, Kamrun Nahar of Bangla department, and Sharmila Majumder Mitra of History department.
The MPhil obtainers are-- Zannatul Ferdous and Md Alamgir Hossain of Bangla
department, Mohammad Ashraful Habib of Drama and Dramatics and Graner Marak of government and Politics Department.
JU teacher wins Bangabandhu Award
Professor Monirul Hasan Khan of the Department of Zoology of Jahangirnagar University (JU) won Bangabandhu Award for his contribution in preserving wildlife.
A gazette notification to this end was issued on June 1, said an official release of the university.
JU Vice-Chancellor Farzana Islam congratulated Prof Monirul for winning the award.
Ministry of Environment and Forest will soon hand over the award prize to the winner through a function.
Monirul, a former student of the JU, joined its Zoology department as lecturer in 2005. He obtained PhD from Cambridge University, UK with Commonwealth Scholarship in 2004. He was promoted as professor in 2014.
He also got Forktail-Leica Award, UK in 2007, Zoological Society of London Award in 2008, Future Conservationist Award of the USA and UK in 2014 for his remarkable contribution to wildlife preservation.
Career fair held at BRAC University
A two-day ‘Engineering and Computer Science Career Fair 2015’ organised by the Office of Career Services & Alumni Relations (OCSAR) of BRAC University began yesterday on the university premises, says a press release.
Syed Saad Andaleeb, vice-chancellor of BRAC University, inaugurated the event as chief guest.
The fair is being held aiming to bring together major employers with graduating students from Engineering and Computer Science.
More than 15 commercial organisations, ICT solutions, NGO and service providers have been participating in the fair.
The inaugural event was followed by seminars and workshops from relevant department and organisations.
1st alumni night held at Bangladesh University
The first alumni night of Bangladesh University with participation from ex-students was held at Gazi Waliur Rahamn auditorium in the capital on Friday, says a press release.
Lawmaker Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak as chief guest inaugurated the event. Kamrul Hasan, vice-chancellor (in-charge) of Bangladesh University, was the special guest.
The programme was chaired by MA Ghulam Dastagir, secretary of Board of Trustees. Around 500 former students of the university participated in the event. The alumni night became the grad-gathering of former and current students. Besides teachers and students, officers and staffs were also present in the event.
Dormitory for IUB female students
A female dormitory namely ‘IUB-Saima Hall’ for the meritorious female students from outside Dhaka city was launched at Baridhara in capital on Tuesday, says a press release.
IUB set up the dormitory with generous support of the Shaheed Khalek and Major Salek Bir Uttam Trust.
Tahrunnesa Abdullah, a social worker and Magsaysay laureate, inaugurated the dormitory at a ceremony as chief guest.
A Matin Chowdhury, chairman of IUB Founding Trust, Rashed Chowdhury, chairman of Board of Trustees, IUB and M Omar Rahman, vice-chancellor, IUB, also attended the programme, among others.
Mentionable, the dormitory students will receive full tuition scholarship from the IUB aside from free dormitory facility.
