Khulna admin to monitor prices during Ramzan

Khulna district administration will take steps to control the price situation of essential commodities to be sold in the holy month of Ramzan in the city and district.  It will start functioning very soon, said Md Mostafa Kamal, convener of the task force committee, also Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna. A control room would be opened at the DC office to monitor prices of commodities on a regular basis and receive complaints from the consumers.
The committee took decision to conduct mobile court drives to take actions against the dishonest businessmen who would try to hike price of essentials. Meanwhile, Khulna office of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will distribute essential goods in the city during Ramzan at subsidised rates. The market monitoring committee of Khulna was formed at a view-exchange meeting held at the conference room of DC office on Wednesday (June 10) with DC Md Mostafa Kamal in the chair.
Administrator of Zila Parishad, Khulna Sheikh Harunur Rashid, Superintendent of Police (SP), Khulna Md Habibur Rahman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) of Khulna Dipangkar Biswas, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Khulna SM Oziar Rahman, ADC of Khulna Md Zahangir Hossain, Chief Executive Officer of TCB Khulna region Md Rabiul Morshed, among others, spoke on the occasion. DC Kamal has warned businessmen of stern actions in case of any allegation of hoarding any kind of consumer items to enhance their prices for making hefty profit.
Mostafa Kamal called upon the leaders of the business community, in particular the retailers, to sell goods of daily necessities within the budget of the average consumer so that Khulna residents are not forced to delve deep into their pockets during the holy month of Ramzan.
He also sought help from people of all walks of life to keep the prices of daily commodities within the reach of the common people during the month of fasting.
The market monitoring committee convener also asked to fix the wholesale and retail prices of some major essentials and display the prices in markets, major shops and wholesale hubs during the said time.
District level government and non-government officials, representatives of KCC, KCCI, wholesale markets, Banik Samity, Imam parishad and local journalists were present at the meeting.
