Vessel workers will go for an indefinite strike from January 26 midnight demanding a 15-point charter of demands including announcement of Tk10,000 as minimum wage, reports UNB. Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam, general secretary of Bangladesh Noujan Sramik Federation (Bangladesh Waterways Transport Workers Federation), told UNB that the federation would enforce the strike to ensure the workers’ welfare and better perquisites. He said they were mainly focusing on a new pay structure. Their other demands include implementation of Fishing Trawler Wage Gazette, cancellation of the plan to supply oil through pipelines, ensure navigability and safety of waterways, he said.
Alam urged the government to meet their demands by the deadline, otherwise they would have no choice but to go ahead with the strike plan.
