Youth held for ‘raping sister-in-law’

Police arrested a young man from Bhatara area in the capital yesterday for allegedly raping his sister-in-law. The arrested was identified as Nazrul Islam, a resident of Sayeednagar in  Bhatara area.
Sub-inspector Babul Hossain of Bhatara Police Station said the accused raped her teenage sister-in- law who had been living with him for around six months.
At one stage, the victim became pregnant and she informed the matter to her family members. Later victim’s mother filed a case against Nazrul with Bhatara Police Station.
After recording the case, police arrested him from Bhatara area.
SI Babul told The Independent that the victim had been sent to the One Stop Crisis Centre in Dhaka Medical College Hospital for necessary examinations.
The accused was also produced before the court seeking seven days’ remand, SI Babul added.
