Construction of Khulna-Mongla rail track begins soon

Construction of 64.75 kilometers long Khulna-Mongla broad-gauge railway will begin soon amid a hope to raise financial growth and the export-import of the country, said Bangladesh Railway (BR) sources here yesterday, reports BSS. The total cost for construction of the railway would be around Taka 3801.6180 crore-which Taka 1430.2630 crore would come from Bangladesh government and the rest Taka 2371.3490 crore come from the credit assistance by the Indian government.
“If Khulna-Mongla railway construction would complete, the direct railway communication of the country will be established with Mongla port”, said M Amjad Hossen, Director-General of Bangladesh Railway. The construction of the railway would increase the import -export of the country and would raise financial growth of the country, he said. All the commodities would easily to be transferred to different parts of the country including the capital from the port, said the top BR official.
Regarding the construction of the project, M Majibur Rahman, General Manager (Project) of Bangladesh Railway said “the infrastructure construction of the project will start soon, adding that necessary documents have been sent for seeking concerned bank approval in India”.
The BR official is hopeful for getting the approval from India as soon as possible.
In this connection, an agreement has been signed between Bangladesh Railway and Indian construction company,-Ircon International Limited, Abdul Hai, Project Director of Khulna-Mongla Railway Construction Project.
“The construction will end within next 42 months since inception of the construction works”, said the official.
