BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy yesterday alleged that an ‘organised group’ is trying to extort money from some Bangladeshi expatriates opening a fake Facebook account against his name, reports UNB. Speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, he said he has already lodged a general diary (GD) with Keraniganj Police Station in this connection. The BNP leader urged law enforcers to trace the swindlers and bring them to justice. “An organised group of frauds is creating confusion by demanding money from Bangladeshi expatriates opening a fake Facebook account against my name and using my national ID card,” he told the press briefing. Gayeshwar observed that the frauds are now deceiving people in various ways misusing the information and communication technology (ICT). “Many people, not only me, are being subjected to victims by the organised gangs.” The BNP leader said someone phoned Akbar Hossain, a Bangladesh expatriate living in Japan, using phone numbers 01878420644 and 01723020066 demanding money from him in his name.
