Relatives went on the rampage through the emesrgency ward of Barisal Sher-e- Bangla Medical College Hospital leaving a nurse there injured as a patient died allegedly due to negligence in treatment on Tuesday evening.
Inured staff nurse Mustafizur Rahman was admitted to the hospital and agitated nurses observed one hour work abstention protesting the attack. Police rushed to the spot, detained three of the accused attackers, named Imran of Dapdapia area, Rubel and Antar of KDC area of the city.
Shakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police station officer-in- charge, acknowledging the facts said one Liton of KDC area of the city had been brought to the emergency ward of the hospital at about 6:15 pm Tuesday suspected to have had brain homerage.
At that time, senior nurse on duty at emergency Mustafizur Rahman asked the attendants of the patient to wait for doctor and later observing severe condition of the patient gave admission ticket.
However, when the patient was brought to the medicine ward, attending doctor declared him dead making the attendants of the patient agitated.
The attendants attacked staff nurse Mustafiz blaming him for delay in admission and treatment causing the death and also clashed with other staffs of the hospital.
Hearing of the incident, local ward councilor Zainul Abedin and police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.
Hospital staff then stopped performing duty and police detained the aforesaid three attackers.
The staff resumed duty about 7:30 pm after Dr Kamrul Hasan Selim, director of the hospital, assured them of taking legal actions against the attackers and ensuring safety and security of the staff.
Police sources said till filing this report no case was lodged by the hospital authorities against three detainees.
