Cant quit sans talks with PM

‘Can’t quit sans talks with PM’

Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman H.M. Ershad, yesterday said that he will not quit the position of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Special Envoy without discussing with her. “If I quit the post without discussing with her, it will look odd, which will be similar to dishonouring the PM. I cannot do it. I will speak to her regarding the matter,” said Ershad at a views exchange meeting with party leaders and activists at the party office in Banani. After the views exchange meeting, a party press release said, “Party Chairman H.M. Ershad said that the PM has honoured him by making him her Special Envoy. ‘So, I cannot dishonour her by giving up the position without discussing with her. I will discuss with her in this regard’.”
The press release said that the government will be benefitted if JP is strengthened. The party’s politics will have to be cleared before the people for making it a strong political party. “I have appointed the Co-Chairman and changed the Secretary General in the greater interest of the party. The party has revived following the reshuffle in the top position of the party. I hope the party’s leaders and activists will carry out their duties to make the party a strong opposition party in parliament,” said Ershad. He also said that JP is the main opposition in the parliament. “I hope our parliament members will not make any controversial statements in parliament so that common people will not confuse about our party’s activities,” he added.
Newly-appointed Co-Chairman G.M. Quader and Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader also addressed the meeting, among others. Earlier on January 17, at a council of the party’s Rangpur unit in the district, Ershad had declared his younger brother and party’s presidium member, Quader, as its co-chair. At a press briefing on January 19, Ershad removed Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu from the post of Secretary General and made A.B.M. Ruhul Amin Hawlader as its new Secretary General. At the council on January 17, Ershad also declared holding the party’s central council in April. He announced JP presidium members—Quader and Hawlader - as convener and member secretary of the council preparation committee, respectively.
