Awami League’s Dhaka South City unit acting president MA Aziz passed away at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday noon. He was 68.
Aziz was admitted to the DMCH yesterday morning with chest pain. Later, he was taken to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital. Aziz’s heart stopped functioning around 12pm due to a cardiac arrest, said an AL press release.
The senior AL leader left behind wife, three sons, relatives, well-wishers and admirers to mourn his death, the media release said.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, AL general secretary and Public Administration minister Syed Ashraful Islam expressed condolence in separate messages over Aziz’s death.
Sheikh Hasina, also the AL chief, went to Aziz’s Old Dhaka residence to console the bereaved family members.
Aziz had been serving the AL as the acting president of the south city unit for the last eight years. His eldest son Umar Bin Abdul Aziz is the councillor of Ward No. 27 under Dhaka South City Corporation.
The AL leader’s first namaz-e-janaza was held in front of the party headquarters at Bangabandhu Avenue after Maghrib prayers and the second namaz-e-janaza was held on the city’s Alia Madrasa premises after Esha prayers.
