The process of returning the 150 rescued victims of trafficking, repatriated from Myanmar on Monday after months of ordeal, to their families have started yesterday noon, said officials of Cox’s Bazaar police.
Talking to The Independent, Tofayel Ahmed, additional superintendent of police, said, “The immigration procedures for the returnees have already ended. We have also interrogated them from 8am to 1pm on Tuesday. Now they are ready to be sent to their families”
He said that the detective branch (DB) had identified two Rohingyas among the 150 people.
They were identified as Hamid Hossain, 26, a Rohingya registered as a resident of Shed-15, Block-f of Kutupalong camp in Ukhia, and Mohammad Idris, 19, an unregistered Rohingya of the same area.
Our district correspondent reports that among the remaining 150 victims, Ujjal Hossain, 23, from Jessore, was found to be an accused in a case filed for human trafficking.
Among the returnees, police have also identified Shafikul Islam, 36, from Rajbarhi, and Saddam Hossain, 25, from Kutubdia, as convicts in other cases.
Tofayel Ahmed said that these five people were taken into police custody. “They will be treated according to the law,” he said.
