The investigators probing the murder of two persons in New Eskaton area of the capital on Apr14 are allegedly under pressure from influential quarters to save the son of a ruling party MP.
An investigator told The Independent that influential quarters are trying to influence the case after they failed to bribe the Detective Branch(DB) officials investigating the double murder.
Rickshaw puller Abdul Hakim had died on April 15 and auto-rickshaw driver Yakub Ali on April 23 in Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Both of them had sustained bullet injuries when Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of a ruling party MP, opened fire on them.
Yakub used to drive an auto-rickshaw of daily Janakantha.
Monwara Begum, mother of Abdul Hakim, had filed a murder case with Ramna police station on April 15.
Bakhtiar, son of AL-backed parliamentarian Pinu Khan, and his driver Imran Fakir were arrested on May 3. Imran confessed to the crime before the court and Bakhtiar was put on a four-day police remand on Tuesday. Bakhtiar lived in Dhanmondi and was involved in share business.
According to the investigator, Bakhtiar admitted during the primary investigations that he was drunk during the incident.
"I was going to Bangla Motor from Maghbazar by car, but was stuck near the under-construction LMG tower in a traffic gridlock. I got upset and opened fire from my pistol indiscriminately," DB officials quoted Bakhtiar as having said.
"The MP is trying to create pressure on us by mentioning the names of some top-ranking officials of Prime Minister Office (PMO) and the home ministry," alleged the investigator.
However, when asked, Pinu Khan, who is also general secretary of the Awami Mohila League, denied the allegation.
