Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday said that the per capita income of the country rose to $1,314 now in the country, reports BSS.
"The foreign exchange reserve of the country crossed $24 billion as overseas workers are sending their remittance regularly," he said, while replying to a question from treasury bench member Begum Lutfa Taher in the House.
The minister informed the House that the remittance sent by the overseas workers plays a significant role in the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) along with improvement of socioeconomic condition of the common people. "A total of 93,41,377 Bangladeshi nationals went to 160 countries with employment till 2015 from 1976," Eng Mosharraf told the Jatiya Sangsad.
