Nepal and Bahrain, both the finalists of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament, are eyeing to lift the title when they will face each other today at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. The final will kick off at 5:00pm. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to witness the match as chief guest and would distribute prizes among the winners.
In pre-match press conference yesterday, both the coaches of Bahrain and Nepal put across their high hopes to win the final.
The Bahrain head coach Murjan Eid will not be allowed to sit on the side line as he was ruled out during their semifinal match against Bangladesh and his deputy Al Nasar will act as coach in the final. Bahrain team manager Turki Sanad stated it to media yesterday. But Al Nasar was also very optimistic about their win against Nepal, though he said that the match will be very tough one.
Al Nasar while speaking in the press meet said, “It will be very tough match but I hope that we will be success and the players will give their 100 percent to win the final.”
“Our players show their capability with improving performance step by step to qualify in the final.”
“There is no easy team in the tournament, we have a style of playing but match to match and considering the opponents strategy can be changed. Each team have different strategy for different match,” Nasar said replying to a query.
Bahrain manager Turki Sanad said that they will talk to the match referee to consider their head coach Murjan Eid to allow at the dug-out, as he (Murjan Eid) did nothing but shouting to give direction to the players.
Turki Sanad expected that the assistant coach would be able to handle the team properly in absence of the head coach and will success in their mission.
Nepal, head coach Balgopal Maharjan, who was overwhelmed after his team qualifying in the final, said, “All preparation has done for the final, the boys are very confident, they are very much enthusiastic to play the final.”
Balgopal, who once played for the national side, said, “It is really a special day, as after 17 years Nepal team is playing a final in an international tournament while they played the SA Games in 1999 at home ground against Bangladesh and I was one of the members of that team.”
Balgopal, who played in Bangladesh for different clubs said, “Boys highly encouraged with the supporters. Bangladesh is my second home ground, hope supporter will come again to support us.”
Both teams had their practice session ahead of the final yesterday. Nepal did their practice at Abahani Limited ground at Dhanmondi in the morning, while Bahrain attended the training at BUET ground in the afternoon.
