In a unique gesture the mayor of Jhenidah has offered bicycles to poor girl students coming to school from faraway areas, aiming to stop dropout and early marriage. A large number of girls, especially those coming from poor families cannot continue their study because of bad road communication. They do get admitted into school; but they cannot endure trouble of coming to school from distant places, leading to discontinuation of education.
As they are forced to stop going to school their parents give them to marriage at early age.
Their dreams are often shattered long before time in a country where about half of the population are women.
Considering the situation, Saidul Karim Mintu, Mayor of Jhenidah municipality, also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League, has taken the initiative to remove the communication barrier of the some of the poor students and encourage them to continue with their education.
