Two women killed �by husbands�

Two women were allegedly murdered by their husbands in Jessore on Wednesday night.The dead were identified as Achia Khatun, 24, wife of Fazlur Rahman of Sham Nagore village in sadar upazila and Keya Chandra, 17, wife of Shamol Chandra of Ghosh Nagore village in Abhoynagore upazila of the district.
Pikul Hossain, father of Achia Khatun. said his daughter was married to Fazlur Rahman of Saham Nagore village three years ago. There was no demand for dowry at the time of marriage. But later, Fazlur Rahman demanded Tk one lakh as dowry from him.
Accordingly, Pikul Hossain gave the amount of money. But the greedy husband of his daughter was not satisfied and recently, he asked Achia to bring Tk 50,000 more from him. When Achia refused to comply with his demand the man started beating her severely leaving her dead on the spot.
Later Fazlur Rahman hanged her body from ceiling of their house and went into hiding to avoid police arrest.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Jessore Medical Collage morgue for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Nirmal, uncle of victim Keya Chandra, said about one year ago, his nice was give marriage to Shyamal of Ghosh Nagore village in Abhoynagore upazila.
Shyamal was a drug addict and often tortured his wife for money. Yesterday evening, Shyamal asked Keya to give him Tk 5,000 for purchasing drug. When she refused Shyamal started torturing Keya.
At one stage, Keya fainted; and local people admitted her to Jessore Medical Collage Hospital, where she succumbed to injuries after an hour.
Ananda, father of the victim, said his daughter has been killed by her husband.
