The government has appointed Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Nizamuddin Ahmed as the new chief of Naval Staff, reports UNB.
The Defence Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday, said an ISPR release.
It said the appointment will come into effect on the afternoon of January 27 when Nizamuddin would be promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral. He was made the Navy chief for three years until January 26, 2019.
Nizamuddin will replace incumbent Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Farid Habib who will go on retirement on January 27.
The government has recently upgraded the rank of the Navy chief to Admiral from Vice Admiral while that of Bangladesh Air Force to Air Chief Marshal from Air Marshal.
