Pakistan upbeat to regain U-19 World Cup title

All the participating teams are busy to dovetail with the condition by doing their intense practice before getting down for the final round clash in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2016 to be commenced from January 27.
After the finish of the practice session, Pakistan skipper Gohar Hafeez like the captains of South Africa, Ireland, New Zealand and Fiji were faced media at their pre-tournament briefing.
Pakistan triumphed their maiden title when Bangladesh hosted the tournament for the first time in 2004. They became the only nation to retain the trophy when they repeated the feat two years later in Sri Lanka. Even they reached the final in the last edition in UAE in 2014, but were defeated by South Africa in the title clash. This time they are upbeat to regain the title.
“We’ve come with this aim to win the World Cup. In 2004, we also won here. So we’ve prepared accordingly this time,” said Pakistan’s captain Gohar Hafeez, whose idol is former Pakistan opener Saeed Anwar.
“We want to win for Pakistan in this tournament and like Sami Aslam, we want to play for Pakistan’s senior side,” Hafeez told reporters at Hotel Le Meridien Dhaka Limited in the capital yesterday.
Two-time champion Pakistan have been clubbed in the toughest Group-B in the preliminary round of the multinational tournament, where strong Asian contenders Sri Lanka, fast-improving Afghanistan and Canada will also compete at the same group.
Pakistan captain said that they are composed to go to the next phase wrapping up all the hurdle of the group stage.
“We’re very confident. All the other teams are very good. We’ll come across these challenges and beat them all,” he reckoned.
On the other hand, South African skipper Tony de Zorzi said that they have devised a one-match approach and will try to go further capitalising it.
“I think there’s enough pressure going into the match. It is something we enjoy. We will try to keep it simple, take it one game at a time and no added pressure, really,” said Tony de Zorzi.
About the team’s strength, Zorzi said that they have unique team unity and want to stick to it.
The skippers from New Zealand, West Indies, Ireland, Fiji and neighbouring Nepal also spoke about their respective team’s goal, desire and strength.
