Dav Whatmore, the former Bangladesh cricket coach yesterday visited the house of Manjarul Islam Rana who died in road accident in 2007, just before Bangladesh’s World Cup match against India.
Rana made his international debut in 2005 when Whatmore was in the charge of the team. The all-rounder put up a memorable performance against Zimbabwe immediate after his debut what Whatmore always remembered.
Once he got the opportunity, the current Zimbabwe coach Whatmore didn’t make any mistake to visit Rana’s house, just adjacent to the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium. He talked to Rana’s mother and stayed there for an hour.
Rana’s mother however was elated by the good gesture of Whatmore as she didn’t expect him to come when the BCB officials don’t make any visit despite coming in Khulna repeatedly.
“I didn’t get any invitation to go the field to watch Bangladesh game. But I don’t have complain. Whatmore visited us today and I am extremely happy with that,” Rana’s mother Jamila Khatun said.
The BCB however named a gallery in the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium after Rana to recall his contribution to the Bangladesh Cricket.
Rana along with other domestic cricket Sajjadul Ahmed Setu died in a road accident on the way to have lunch in a restaurant in Khulna on March 16, 2007.
