Lt Gen Shafiul Huq new army chief

Lieutenant General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, NDC, PSC, Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division (AFD) has been appointed as the 15th Chief of Army Staff (CAS).
According to a Defence Ministry notification issued yesterday, his appointment as the Chief of Army Staff is for a tenure of three years which begins on the afternoon of June 25, 2015.
He will succeed General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan who has been serving as the Chief of Army Staff since June 25, 2012 and is now set to retire. He will proceed on retirement as the Chief of Army Staff with effect from June 25, 2015, on completion of his tenure of service, a Defence Ministry notification read.
Talking to The Independent over telephone, the newly appointed Army Chief, currently a three-star General, said that he will join his new post as per the instructions of the notification of the Defence Ministry.
A separate notification of the Defence Ministry has stated that Lieutenant General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq will be promoted to the post of General with effect from the afternoon of June 25, 2015.
Lieutenant General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq has been serving as Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division since January 1, 2013.
