Mahfuz �killed them all�

Mahfuz, the prime suspect in the sensational five-murder case, yesterday reportedly confessed before a court to his involvement with the gruesome killings, reports UNB.
Judicial Magistrate Sayeduzzaman Sharif recorded the statement of Mahfuz under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc).
This was revealed by police super of the district Dr Khandaker Mahiduddin at a press conference at his office.
The police super said Mahfuz, in his statement, told the court that he alone killed the five members of the family one after another by hitting them in the head with a pestle (grinding stone) and strangulation.
Mahfuz is a nephew of Shafiqul Islam, the husband of victim Taslima Begum.
The other deceased are Shafiquls children Sumaiya, 5, and Shanta, 10, Taslimas brother Morshedul, 22, and Lamia, 25, wife of Shafiquls brother Sharif.
Mahfuz told the court that he planned to take revenge on his slain aunt Lamia as she had refused his proposal for developing an illicit relationship with him. Mahfuz who used to work at Morsheduls hosiery factory in Narayanganj, was publicly humiliated by Lamias husband Sharif, Shafiqul and Morshedul over the matter.
On January 15 (Friday), he entered the residence of Lamia in the evening and hid under the colt in her room.
However, Lamia slept in another room with her sister-in-law Taslima on that night. Taslimas daughter Sumaiya and son Shanta also slept with them.
Taslimas brother Morshedul, who slept in Lamias room on that night, sensed Mahfuzs presence in the room at late night. However, Mafuz hit him in the head with the grinding stone and later strangled him.
After Taslima sent her son to school around 6:45am on Saturday, Mahfuz came out of Morsheds room and hit her in the head with the pestle from behind. He also strangled her with a napkin.
Lamia woke up from sleep hearing screams of Taslima only to be hit by Mahfuz in the similar fashion. As Sumaiya started crying, he strangulated her to death.
Meanwhile, Shanta came back home around 7:30am to change his shoes when Mahfuz opened the door.
As the minor boy started screaming seeing the horrible scene, the killer dashed him with the wall and later strangled him.
The five members of the family were found slain at their Baburail residence in the city on Saturday night. Shafiqul Islam filed a case against unidentified miscreants with Narayanganj Sadar Police Station on Sunday morning.
Police arrested Mahfuz and showed him arrested in the case on the same day.
