Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said there is no need to raise any demand before her as she knows the problems of the country’s people and also knows how to deal with those, reports UNB from Sylhet.
“I know very well what the problems of our countrymen are and also know well on how to deal with those and develop the country…we’re working to that end,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina, also the President of ruling Awami League, said this while addressing a mammoth public rally at the historic Alia Madrasah Ground here.
The Prime Minister called upon people not to forget ‘boat’, the election symbol of Awami League, in the coming days as it has continued to ensure peace, prosperity and development of the country.
“Hope, you’ll surely keep confidence in us (AL) because we’ve got independence through casting votes in favour of ‘boat’ and it also ensured development. Please don’t forget about ‘boat’ during vote in the coming days ...boat will ensure peace, prosperity, development and your economic emancipation,” she said.
Prior to addressing the rally, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of 22 development projects from the same venue.
Terming Awami League as an organisation that belongs to common people, Hasina said the country witnessed massive development whenever the party assumed office as it brought the country’s independence.
“But, those who had grabbed power looted everything, created militancy and unleashed terrorism. But, there’ll be no place for them. Bangladesh is moving ahead and will continue to move…we’ll establish Bangladesh as a prosperous and developed country,” she told the rally.
Turning to the mayhem and atrocities unleashed by the BNP-Jamaat, including burning innocent people to death before and after the January-5 polls and again during January to March last year, Hasina said no one then could escape from Khaleda Zia’s vengeance.
Those culprits who have burnt innocent people to death would not be spared. “Cases have already been filed in those places of occurrence and everyone involved in such crimes will be brought under trial.”
Taking a swipe at Ziaur Rahman for illegally grabbing power and then stopping the war crimes trial after the assassination of Father of the Nation, the Prime Minister said the war crimes trial is now taking place while the verdicts are being executed.
Continuing her scathing attack on BNP chief Khaleda Zia, her arch rival said when the country is moving ahead, people are living in peace, Khaleda feels unhappy.
Hasina said although her government during 1996-2001 had taken an initiative for setting up refueling facilities at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet, but the BNP-Jamaat government halted the activities. But, after assuming office again in 2009, initiatives were taken to set up refueling facilities at the airport.
Hasina said a process is underway to set up two more medical universities in Rajshahi and Chittagong as it was her government that established the country’s first medical university, BSMMU, in the capital.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith, AL Advisory Council member Suranjeet Sengupta, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak , among
others, spoke at the rally held with former city Mayor and AL city unit president Badruddin Ahmed Kamran in the chair.
