The 3rd China-South Asia Expo and 23rd Kunming Import and Export Commodities Fair scheduled to start in Kunming, the main city of the Yunnan province, tomorrow will exhibit China’s eagerness to deepen its relations with South and Southeast Asian and Pan-Indian Ocean regions, especially in economy and trade cooperation and cultural exchange. A total of 75 countries, including 18 from South Asia and 25 domestic provinces from China, are taking part in the 5-day expo.
“This Expo and Fair are seen as important contributors to the ‘One Belt and One Road’ initiative. The Expo will be a specific case for Yunnan to play an active role in offering service and taking part in the national initiative,” Wang Guoping, Deputy Head of Yunnan International Exhibition Affairs, said while talking to a group of journalists in Kunming recently. The venue of the 3rd expo is recently constructed Kunming Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Center. It includes 12 indoor exhibition halls covering 1,23,000 square metre and an outdoor exhibition zone of an area of 7,000 square metre.
This year the numbers of foreign exhibition booths increased by 50 per cent and keeping it in mind the international pavilions have been decorated in unique designs, Wang Guoping said.
“The exhibition booths are now highly diversified and displays from the sister cities are to be presented for the first time in the same kind of exhibitions nationwide,” he added.
So far, 83 renowned enterprises have confirmed their participation in the exhibition. 24 of them are listed in the Fortune’s top 500 of the world, and 8 included in the Fortune’s top 500 enterprises.
“In addition to the exposition, trade talks, and contract signing, a series of important activities will be held including the 10th China-South Asia Business Forum, the 7th GMS Economic Corridor Forum, the 13th ASEAN Overseas Chinese Entrepreneurs Conference, and the 3rd China-South Asia Think Tank Forum,” Wang said.
Kunming Dian-chi International Convention and Exhibition Center, located on the eastern bank of Dian-chi Lake, will be the permanent venue of China-South Asia Expo.
It has a vast building complex, including the convention and exhibition center halls and supporting facilities. The exhibition center is surrounded by tourism towns, CBD, Ocean Park, hotels and some residential buildings that reflect superb architectural beauty and the centre itself resembles a peacock spreading its tail.
The project, covering a land area of 127.74 hectares and having an architectural area of 4 million square metre, costs around 6 billion US dollar.
The architectural area of the exhibition hall is 1.17 million square metre that includes the indoor exhibition area of 3,00,000 square metre for 12,000 standard booths, and an outdoor exhibition area of 100,000 square metre.
There are 1,00,000 square meter meeting and banquet facilities for direct exhibition service, and 108 VIP meeting rooms.
The underground parking lot of the exhibition centre has an area of 3,50,000 square metre with a capacity for 10,000 vehicles.
Its construction and use will effectively facilitate the opening-up scale of Yunnan and even Southwest China as well as the urbanisation of Kunming City. In the meantime, Kunming Dianchi International Convention & Exhibition Center will combine convention and exhibition economy with tourism economy, and
form a low-carbon multi-functional ecology international convention and exhibition and tourism culture demonstration area.
The theme park of Kunming Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Center will introduce advanced amusement projects, including theater, showcase
field and large cinemas. Its business areas include international hotels, world
leading brand and fashion departmental stores.
“Actually it forms a new symbol for new cultural tourism consumption businesses and Kunming cultural tourism, and become a new window to show the Yunnan culture to the world,” officials said.
In 1993, the 1st Kunming Fair was held in Kunming. And in 2013, the 1st China-South Asia Expo was held in Kunming alongside the Kunming Fair.
