Electronic showroom looted 
Robbers looted valuables worth of Tk7 lakh from an electronic showroom at Ohab Market in Dhaka’s suburb Ashulia early yesterday.
Ohab, owner of the market, said a gang of robbers stormed into the showroom, tied and beat up its security guard and looted seven refrigerators, seven television sets, two sewing machines and eight sound systems worth of Tk7 lakh around 4am. Later, locals rescued the security guard, Aminur Rahman, 30, and sent him to a local private hospital.

Brick kilns fined for pollution 
A mobile court yesterday fined three brick kilns at Rauzan upazila of the district for causing pollution and operating the plants without licenses.
Officials familiar with the drives said an executive magistrate conducted the mobile court and fined the owners of the three brick fields an amount worth Taka 3 lakh for running the kilns without official approvals and defying environmental laws. "They were running the fields illegally also burning timber in defiance of environmental laws . . . they did not have any effluent treatment plants (ETP) either," an official of the upazila administration said.

‘Drug peddler’ arrested  

Members of RAB-5, Rajshahi arrested an alleged drug peddler with 220 pieces of yaba tablets from Puthia upazila yesterday noon.
The arrestee was identified as Matin, 35, son of Mojibur Rahman of Nandangasi village under Charghat upazila of the district.  Additional Superintend of Police Sohel Rana of RAB-5 Bagmara camp, informed that acting on a tip off, they came to know that Matin was waiting near Fatema Clinic in Puthia with yaba for distribution to others drug peddlers. 

Two Shibir men held 
Police arrested two activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, of the district unit from Rupatoli area of the city here on Wednesday night.
The arrested were Kamrul Islam and Khan Mohammad Saifullah. Police arrested them with a private car while they were moving in the area Wednesday night suspiciously, said officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Thana Sakhwat Hossain.
A case was filed in this connection.
