IU folklore dept gets new chairman

KUSHTIA: Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, professor of English Department of Islamic University (IU), has made new chairman of folklore studies department of the university in Kushtia.
He replaced Professor M Shahinoor Rahman, also a former pro-vice-chancellor of the university, of the same department, IU registrar office sources said.
Registrar (In-charge) SM Abdul Latif said IU Vice-Chancellor Abdul Hakim Sarker appointed him to the post for the next three years.
Prof Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari said that he would work responsibly in the department as the chairman.

'Dev Memorial Lecture' held at DU

‘Dev Memorial Lecture’ organised by Govinda Dev Centre of Philosophical Research was held at the Dhaka University (DU) RC Majumder Arts auditorium recently.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique addressed the function as the chief guest with chairman of the centre and Pro-VC (academic) Nasreen Ahmad in the chair. Professor of DU English Department Fakhrul Alam presented the lecture on ‘Rabindranath Tagore at the Intersection of Nationalism and Modernity’ in the function.

Australian professor meets DU VC 
Director of Higher Degree Research Programme and Professor of the School of Law of the University of Western Sydney, Australia Daud Hassan called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique at the latter's office of the university on 
Wednesday.
Chairman of the Department of Oceanography of DU Md Kawser Ahmed and some PhD Scholars from University of Western Sydney were present on this occasion.
During the meeting, they discussed the possibilities of establishing ‘Ocean Governance Centre’ at Dhaka University.
They also discussed the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative academic and research programmes on oceanography by the University of Dhaka and University of Western Sydney, Australia. They agreed to sign a MoU in this regard soon.
