A woman, who was set on fire allegedly by her husband over family dispute in Bangla Bazar area under Bayazid Police Station of Chittagong on Wednesday, died at the burnt unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) early yesterday. Earlier on Wednesday morning her husband allegedly tried to kill her by pouring kerosene in the city.
Local people whisked her off to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) after the incident. At least 80 per cent of the body of the victim was burnt, said CMCH sources.
The victim was identified as Laily Begum, 29, wife of Yousuf Sheikh, hailing from Nangalkot upazila of Comilla district.
Family sources said, Laily married to Yousuf Sheikh, son of Kafil Uddin of Bangla Bazar area under Bayezid Police Station in the city.
The victim's father Muslimur Rahman filed a case, with Bayezid Police Station accusing victim’s husband Yousuf Sheikh, father-in-law Kafil Uddin, brother-in-law Ahmed Ali,” said Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge (OC).
“Laily tied her knot with Yousuf two months ago leaving her previous husband. However, Yousuf’s family allegedly did not take it easily. So the family members of Yousuf always rebuked Laily,” said the OC quoting the compliant.
“On Wednesday victim’s husband poured kerosene on the victim with a view to kill, “said the OC referring to the compliant. Police arrested victim’s husband and brother-in-law.
