Turn students into skilled human resources

UNB

President Abdul Hamid on Thursday underscored the need for taking up education programmes in line with the international job market’s demand, reports UNB.
"In the age of globalisation, the importance of skilled manpower is increasing day by day for survival. We’ll have to chalk out education plans in line with the international job market [demand] and our students will have to be educated with profession-based traditional and non-traditional education," he said.
The President said this while addressing the 3rd Convocation of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) on its campus in the capital.
At the convocation, a total of 835 students received degrees while 14 got gold medals for their outstanding academic results.
Stressing the need for turning students into skilled human resources for the country’s sustainable development, President Hamid, also the BUP Chancellor, said quality education is needed not only for economic development, but also for developing non-communal spirit and sense of patriotism among students.
He went on saying, "Our universities must keep it in mind we don't need education for achieving certificates only, rather we need education to build enlightened human being and creative personality to take the nation forward."
Bangladesh has many elements to accelerate growth, said Abdul Hamid adding, "As the 21st century is the 'Century of Asia', Bangladesh will be able to remain as an advanced passenger on the development highway if it can use its potentials properly." Pointing at the graduates, the chancellor said, "Today's convocation is giving recognition to your achievement and on the other hand it is bestowing responsibilities on you and these responsibilities are towards your family, society, above all towards the country and nation," he said.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque and BUP VC Major General Sheikh Mamun Khaled also spoke on the occasion while University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan delivered the convocation speech.
Another report adds: President Abdul Hamid yesterday suggested changing the name of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), reports UNB.
"When I had first visited the university, I saw general students  studying here. But seeing its name, Bangladesh University of Professionals, it seems only professionals study here," he said while addressing BUP’s 3rd Convocation on its campus in the capital.
