DHAKA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

�Ghashful� to be screened at Public Library today

Filmmaker Akram Khan-directed ‘Ghashful’ will be screened today at Shawkat Osman Memorial auditorium of Central Public Library, Shahbag in the city, as a part of the ongoing Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF).
The story of the film evolves around a 21-year-old young man named Taukir who roams around the alleys of the city’s streets.  He finds a chessboard with chess pieces, but he cannot remember whether he had ever played chess! He found a harmonica in his storeroom. He tried to play the harmonica, but failed. Once he found a faded letter in his pocket. He became furious while reading the letter. The incensed Taukir could not remember anything about Ghashful, the writer of the letter. Later, Taukir is reborn while searching for ‘Ghashful’.  
The cast of the film includes Kazi Asif, Saila Sabi, Tania Bisti, Naila Azad Nupur, Manas Mukhopadhoya and many more.
Organised by Rainbow Film Society, in association with the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund, SIGNIS - Brussels, Reelport - Germany, the Edward M. Kennedy Center -Dhaka, the Alliance Francaise de Dhaka and University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh -ULAB, the festival has been dedicated to introducing the mainstream global cinema to the local filmmakers as well as to promote a healthy cine culture within Bangladesh.
A number of 184 films are being screened from 60 participating countries, including France, Brazil, Pakistan, Nepal, Argentina and the host county, Bangladesh in this festival. The festival includes a competition section for the Asian and Australian cinema and segment categories for: ‘Retrospective’, ‘Cinema of the World’, ‘Children’s Film’, ‘Women Filmmakers’, ‘Short and Independent Films Section’, and ‘Spiritual Films Section’. Beginning on January 14, the 14th DIFF will end tomorrow.
