Eleventh AGM of LFMEAB held
Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) held its 11th annual general meeting (AGM) for the year 2014 at its board room in the capital recently, says a press release.
President of the association Syed Nasim Manzur presided over the meeting while sr vice president Md Saiful Islam; vice president, Finance, Nasser Khan; vice president, AKM Afzalur Rahman, director, Abdul Momen Bhuiyan, director, Ziaur Rahman, and director, Md Shariful Hassan were also present among others members.
The Annual Report 2014 presented by the president of the association--highlighted challenges and prospects of leather and footwear in the sector.
At the meeting, he addressed the challenges that member factories had faced in the previous year. Issues such as the drastic fall of euro value, tannery relocation and making industry greener, and supply chain disruption owing to domestic political conflict were also addressed at the meeting.
Concerns were also expressed regarding the erosions hitting the country due to the extension of similar facilities for other countries--such as, getting the GSP facility for countries like Pakistan.
Demand has also been made to the government for availing new offers for Bangladesh in order to retain competitiveness. He also urged concerned stakeholders to brand Bangladesh in international market as a lucrative sourcing destination for leather products.
Aiming to strengthen the social compliance initiatives, the AGM also discussed to implement Gender Policy in their member factories. Important factors such as, product diversification to boost export in international market, social compliance, green initiatives and skills training to sustain the growth of this value added and job rich sector. The future focus on target market was also mapped out on the meeting.
