Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad yesterday said he wanted to nominate his wife Raushan Ershad as the party co-chairman but did not do so as she has become aged.
“Raushan is now 76 and she will be 79 after three years when the next election will take place. That’s why I did not take the decision,” he said while addressing a programme in honour of newly appointed secretary general of the party ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader at its Banani office.
His comments came following a controversy over the JP leadership centring the appointment of GM Quader as party co-chairman.
The former president said GM Quader was appointed the party co-chairman considering his age.
He also described the former JP secretary general Zaiuddin Ahmed Bablu as selfish.
“I have dropped Bablu from the post of party general secretary as he announced my wife as party acting chairman without her consent and going beyond my decision,” he said.
Ershad also said that he would quit the post of party chairman if the party leaders want him to do so in the next JP council.
