Allocation increases three times in 7 years

Allocation for women increased about three times in the national budget in seven years after introduction of gender budget, reports BSS.
Allocation for women in the budget proposed in the Jatiya Sangsad on June 4 is Tk 79,087 crore. The share of women in 2009-10 when gender budget was introduced for the first time was Tk 27,248 crore.
According to the proposed gender budget for 2015-16, the allocation for women is 26.80 per cent of the total budget. The allocation has increased by Tk 15,000 crore this fiscal.
In the proposed gender budget, allocations increased for 18 ministries while decreased for 22 ministries.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said his budget speech integration of women in the main stream of development will help attaining ‘inclusive growth’ and upgrading as a middle-income country.
In the new budget to be in force from July, three issues have been given importance to strengthen participation of women in attaining the target goal of national growth. Those are - empowerment of women and social dignity, increasing productivity and enhancing scopes for women to get government facilities.
To enhance empowerment of women and their social dignity, gender budgets are made under seven ministries, including the ministries for primary and mass education, education, health and family welfare, women and children affairs, rural development and cooperatives, agriculture and fisheries and animal resources.
To increase productivity and women’s participation in job market and income generating activities, the finance minister proposed gender budgets under nine ministries, including the ministries for social welfare, labour and employment, youth and sports, local government, textiles and jute, water resources, disaster management and relief, expatriates welfare and overseas employment and CHT affairs.
The finance minister proposed gender budget under 24 ministries and divisions to increase scopes for women to get government facilities.
