Bengal Digital, the nation’s first true digital cable television service, was launched on Tuesday at a hotel in the capital.
Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith launched the service as the chief guest.
Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the special guest and State Minister of Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak was the guest of honour of the launching programme
Speaking on the occasion, Hasanul Haq Inu said that the government will think about to categorize digital set top box under ICT equipment so that it will get tax exemption.
"Nearly 5 lakh subscribers in our country are using illegal set top box of Indian operators like Dish TV, Tata sky. We will take harsh action against them".
Abul Khair, chiarman of Bengal Communication Ltd, said that Bengal Digital will have important features like Conditional Access System, Subscriber Management System, Call Centre etc.
