Smuggled timber seized

Smuggled timber, worth about Tk 50 lakhs, and eight barges that were carrying the logs were seized on  the Meghna River near Loggimarachar in Chandpur Sadar yesterday, afternoon.
Acting on a tip off, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTC) officials along with Sub Inspector Faruque launched a drive in the river and seized the timbers along with the barges.
The timber was illegally being smuggled to Munshiganj  and its adjacent areas from  Swarupkathi in Barisal.
When contacted, BIWTA Deputy Director Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the news.
