GAIBANDHA: Speakers at a function underscored the need for adopting disaster resilient action plans for disastrously affected community to ensure their better livelihoods through reducing risks of natural calamities, reports BSS.
They also expressed their view that people here are facing flood, river erosion and cold wave one after another causing their livelihoods are hampered and emphasis should be given on the sustainable and disaster resilient livelihoods for them.
The opinion came at the workshop on resilient livelihood analysis and action plan formulation at the conference room of deputy director (DD) of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) at Khamarbari of the town yesterday morning.
SKS Foundation and Islamic Relief Bangladesh jointly organized the workshop under the project of Enhancing Inclusive Disaster Resilience in Bangladesh with the financial support of European Commission and Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection.
DD of DAE AKM Ruhul Amin, district livestock officer Dr. Abdul Latif, senior Sadar upazila fisheries officer Abu Sayeed addressed the workshop as the resources persons while project manager M. Ashraful Alam was the moderator.
Fulchhair upazila livestock officer Dr. Hadiuzzaman, Sundarganj upazila agriculture officer Rashedul Islam, and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman also spoke at the function, among others.
The speakers said as the pattern of livelihoods of disaster prone areas people are agriculture, livestock, fisheries, small business and day-labor, they emphasized for taking the livelihood plans on the issues so that their losses caused by disasters could decrease substantially.
