Access, equity to quality education underscored

Access and equity to education to all, particularly the children coming from the poor and distressed communities, has become an urgent need for overall development of the nation, speakers at a discussion said here yesterday, reports BSS.
They viewed side by side with the government initiatives various other richer-class people and financial institutions should come forward towards providing education to the underprivileged dropout children.
They were addressing the discussion prior to giving education appliances among 18 poor but meritorious students who are going to appear in the forthcoming SSC examination from different educational institutions in the city.
Ladies Organisation for Social Welfare (LOFS) organised the ceremony at its office in Rajshahi city in association with Children Education and Awareness Programme and Bangladesh NGO Foundation.
With Murshed Kuraishi Swapan, Chairman of LOFS, in the chair, Executive Director Shahnaz Parveen Luckey, Lecturer of Rajshahi Govt. Womens College Sabrin Nawrin, LOFS Programme Manager Md Salahuddin and Legal Affairs Secretary Ziaul Abedeen spoke on the occasion.
The discussants said students’ dropouts from primary and secondary schools couldn’t be prevented without collective efforts of all concerned especially teachers, guardians and community people.
Highlighting the aspects of ensuring child-friendly atmosphere in the society, they mentioned that all the government and non-government organisations concerned should come forward to protect the legitimate rights of the distressed children. They viewed children irrespective of privileged and underprivileged are equal. So, there is no way but to protect the rights of children living in scattered areas like char.
They urged upon the appliance recipient students to put in their level best efforts to become worthy citizens through attaining proper education.
Inter-cropping with sugarcane has been found as more beneficial to the farmers as it can boost total crop production per unit area coupled with ensuring sustainable sugarcane cultivation with higher economic benefit compared to other crops. Systematic inter-cropping- potato, onion, lentil, mug bean, garlic and some other winter crops, vegetables and spice help increases sugarcane yield compared to sole-cropping.
