Road crashes claim six lives in 3 dists

Six people, including a cop and a woman, were killed in road accidents in Panchagarh, Jessore and Narsingdi districts yesterday. In Panchagarh, two motorcyclists were killed as a bus knocked down their vehicle in Pradaner Haat area on the Debiganj-Nilphamari road in Debiganj upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB. The deceased were Rezaul Islam Swapan, 35, assistant agriculture officer of Domar upazila, of Gaibandha, and Jakirul Islam Mahan, 45, of Sonahar Pradnpara area of the upazila.
Rahimul Islam Bulbul, Sonahar union parishad chairman, said the accident occurred at around 7am when the Debiganj-bound bus from Dhaka hit the motorcycle, leaving the duo dead on the spot. Following the accident, agitated locals torched the bus. On information, police and firefighters rushed to the spot and brough the situation under control.
In Narsingdi, at least three persons, including a woman, were killed and 12 others were injured in a road accident on Dhaka–Sylhet highway, near Ghasirdia in Shibpur upazila, yesterday. The bodies could not be immediately identified.
Police, witnesses and medical sources said a Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Sylhet collided with a truck Ghasirdia killing the three on the spot.
In Jessore, a police constable was killed in a road accident that occurred near Churamonkati Bazar on Jessore-Jhenaidah highway under kotwali police station in the district at about 1pm yesterday. He was identified as Feroj Gazi, 22, of Chowgacha village and constable posted at Jessore.
Sources said the accident occurred while he was going to his village home in Chowgacha on his motorcycle. He died on the spot after a truck knocked him from behind near Churamonkati Bazar. The truck driver fled the place immediately.
