Shamsur Rahman continued his rich vein of form as he smashed back-to-back century for Walton Central Zone at the current edition of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) yesterday.
Riding on Rahman’s 103 Central Zone accumulated 233-5 against Prime Bank South Zone on the close of the first day of the second round at Shaheed AHM Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.
Having sent to bat first, Central Zone lost their opener Rony Talukdar in the very second delivery of the innings. Just 15 runs later, the team also lost Marshall Ayub when they were stuttering on 16-2.
At this stage, Shamsur Rahman paired with Shuvagata Hom hitting a 145-run for the third wicket stand, which crossed 150-run mark.
Although Shamsur Rahman completed his century Hom fell 17 runs short of his century. Hom was more aggressive than Rahman in the match. Before being bowled by Abdur Razzak, the batting all-rounder stroked 83 off 100 with nine boundaries and one six.
Thereafter, Shamsur Rahman tried to extend the team’s score with his fellow batsmen. After losing Al-Amin cheaply Rahman shared another 30-run with Tanvir Haider for the fifth wicket. Finally Shamsur Rahman clouted a patient 103 off 177 balls which featured with nine fours and one six. This was back-to-back century for Shamsur Rahman, who struck 149 against East Zone in the first round game.
Tanvir Haider stayed at stumps on 23, while Sharifullah was on seven not out.
Pacer Robiul Islam Shiplu snapped up two wickets for South Zone. Abdur Razzak, Sohag Gazi and Asif Ahmed claimed one wicket apiece.
Elsewhere, Islami Bank East Zone mustered 203-8 against BCB North Zone at stumps at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra.
East Zone made a solid start after being put in to bat first as they managed to score 73 in 30.2 overs through their opening stand. Liton Das was 17 runs shy of his half century. Das clattered 83-ball 43 with half-a-dozen boundary. Shadman Islam chipped in with 33, just 17 balls after Liton’s exit.
Since then, skipper Mominul Haque and Tasamul Haque in tandem attempted to stir the scoring wheel. The pair clobbered a 49-run for the third wicket partnership. But skipper fell for 31 off 50, clubbing four fours and one six before being caught by Farhad Hossain off Samzamul Islam, who then sent back Alok Kapali cheaply.
At this stage, East Zone fell into further trouble when they lost their four middle-order batsmen within 18 runs when they were sprawling at 178-7. Finally Abul Hasan Raju helped the team surpass the 200-run mark. Raju remained unbeaten on 18. Nazmul Islam was on one not out.
Sanzamul Islam was the most successful bowlers of the BCB North Zone. His bowling figure was 3-33 in 14 overs. Nasir Hossain scalped a couple of wickets. Subashis Roy Mahmudul Hasan and Taijul Islam hauled one wicket each.
