Leaders of Khulna Circuit House Movement Committee have submitted memorandum of Monday to Minister for Sports through Deputy Commissioner as part of agitation against use of Khulna Circuit House Maidan for commercial purposes including holding of International Trade Fair every year.
Earlier, on January 16 they submitted memorandum to Commerce Minister and President of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). Besides, leaders and members of the movement committee have launched campaign to collect mass signatures in support of the demand for freeing circuit house filed from using it for commercial purposes till January 23. Different sports and games organisers, leaders of different clubs, players of cricket and football teams, teachers and students of academic institutions were present at the time of submission of memorandum.
Convener of the committee Ali Akbar Tipu said that there are 16 cricket and four football academies in Khulna city. Besides, there is women’s football academy in the city also. Members of these academies use this circuit house field for practice and playing. But they cannot use the filed at least for six months a year due to commercial, political and social activities. It is our strong demand that Khulna Circuit House Maidan must be used only for games and sports and nothing else, convener of the committee said. We will go for greater movement if our demand is not met by January 25.
Besides, circuit house maidan must not also be used for holding any political meetings, cultural and religious functions to save it from being damaged due to digging of holes for posting poles and keeping heaps of sand and brick. We also demand of the authorities concerned to construct separate playgrounds in each of the eight police stations of Khulna metropolitan city.
In their memorandum they said that Khulna circuit House maidan is mainly meant for playing and not for political, cultural and commercial activities.
Among others, president of Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee (GKDACC) Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, convener of movement committee and KCC ward no-25 councilor Md Ali Akbar Tipu, member secretary and general secretary of Town Club Sujan Ahmed, sports organizers Tariqul Islam Sohan, Wadidul Islam Selim, Tariqul Islam Kislu, Md Juwel, Zabir Ali, were present.
