The second phase of Biswa Ijtema, one of the largest congregations of Muslims in the world, concluded yesterday with the Akheri Munajat at Tongi on the outskirt of the capital, reports UNB.
Eminent Islamic scholar of India Moulana Muhammad Sa’ad conducted the 28-minute Akheri Munajat which began around 11:05am.
The gathering of devotees of all ages spilled over into the roads and areas around the Ijtema venue as the Akheri Munajat started.
The devotees in their thousands joined the munajat from the rooftops and terraces of nearby houses, roads and open fields.
Seven devotees, including a foreigner, died in separate incidents on the Ijtema ground from Thursday to Saturday night.
The three-day congregation began on the Turag bank after Fazr prayers on Friday with delivery of religious sermons.
The Ijtema is being held in two phases from 2012 to ease accommodation problem.
