Bangladesh important market for Canadian grains: Envoy

Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Benoît-Pierre Laramée has said Bangladesh is a very important market for their grains, reports UNB. He underlined the importance of private sector buyers of Canadian grains in deepening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Canada. Laramée was speaking at a function titled ‘Grain Importers Meet Up’ held on Thursday in the city, said a press release yesterday. The Canada Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CanCham) hosted the event with its President Masud Rahman in the chair.
The meeting highlighted various issues related to grain imports from Canada. Leading grain importers from Dhaka and Chittagong and reputed bankers attended the event. A presentation was made by the CanCham Bangladesh on the findings of a survey conducted to identify the constraints associated with the import of grains from Canada. The grain importers identified high price of Canadian grains as the main constraint to the way of import from Canada at high volume. Some of the importers are of the opinion that if they get good prices and can import with minimum lead time, Canadian grains will capture lion share in the Bangladesh market. In response, the Canadian High Commissioner said they will exert sincere efforts to address the problems of the grain importers. He thanked the importers as well as CanCham Bangladesh for the event and laid emphasis on strong networking amongst exporters, importers and traders, and called upon the importers to stay in close touch with the High Commission. Director, Saskatchewan Trade and Export Promotion, Canada, Mortoza Tarafder also spoke on the Canadian Agriculture and its market around the world.
