Local goods in demand at SME fair

 Huge sale of the locally produced goods was witnessed on the third and fourth days on Friday and Saturday as hundreds of people thronging the SME fair being arranged here for both men and women Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), reports BSS.
Huge spectrum of locally produced SME goods including leather products, jute-made products, handicrafts, processed agricultural products, electrical and electronic goods, clothes, design and fashion wares and other products were being showcased in around 35 stalls. SME Foundation organised the five-day fair at Green Plaza in the city to promote local SME sector, enhance production of quality SME products, exhibition and introduction of SME goods for expanding business, trade and commerce.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, opened the Regional SME Products Fair-2016, Rajshahi on Wednesday as the chief guest saying the country has already achieved tremendous uplift in every sector with the participation of both men and women on its way to become a middle income nation soon under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Moniruzzaman, President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said more expansion of investment to the SME sector is needed for bolstering economic condition of both urban and rural areas together with freeing the society from the vicious circle of poverty.
Explaining various aspects of SMEs towards the region's economic development the chamber leader said the government has taken different initiatives for SME development including need based training and information technology.
He urged the local entrepreneurs to come forward for proper utilisation of the initiatives to make the region economically solvent.
He, however, said that SMEs sector could be the ways of effective utilization of the country's surplus manpower.
