Earthquake awareness stressed to reduce losses

The extent of losses of human lives during earthquake could be reduced substantially through creating awareness among the community people and adopting early preparedness with efficient emergency response systems, reports BSS.
The opinion came at the inaugural ceremony of a three-day Basic Training on Search Rescue, First Aid Fire Fighting during natural disasters, including earthquake, at the Training Centre of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station on Saturday.
The opinion came at inaugural ceremony of three-day training workshop organised by Pollishree under the Enhancing Inclusive Disaster Resilience in Bangladesh (EIDRB) project with Oxfam assistance at Afanullah High School here on Tuesday.
Rangpur City Corporation and Pollishree with technical assistance of Fire Service Civil Defense Station have been organising the training with Oxfam funding for urban volunteers to enhance their efficiency for post- earthquake management.
Secretary of Rangpur City Corporation Fazlul Haque formally launched the training course as the chief guest in the inaugural ceremony presided over by Deputy Director of the Fire Service Civil Defense Asaduzzaman Sheikh.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr ATM Mahbubul Karim attended the inaugural ceremony as the special guest. Assistant Director of the Fire Service Civil Defense Lokman Hossain, Course Coordinator Shahidul Islam, Project Coordinator of Pollishree Shahanaz Parveen and its Precocity Communication Officer Rezaul Karim also spoke on the occasion.
Course Coordinator Shahidul Islam narrated objectives of the training course and importance of creating adequate awareness on earthquake among the commoners.
