Nur Mohammad on 3-day remand

A Chittagong court yesterday placed Nur Mohammad, Chairman of Khan Jahan Ali Limited, on a three-day remand in a case filed in connection with the seizure of liquid cocaine at Chittagong Port on June 8 last year.
Metropolitan Magistrate Rahamat Ali passed the order yesterday after hearing the plea of the investigation officer. The Magistrate ordered to quiz the arrestee carefully.
 “The Investigation officer of the case submitted a plea of 3-day remand before the court on Friday to quiz Nur Mohammad. After hearing the court granted 3-day remand,” said Kazi Muttaki Ibnu Minan, additional deputy commissioner (Prosecution) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police.
 “The court also ordered to quiz him with carefully,” added Minan.
Acting on tip-off Rab arrested Nur Mohammad on Friday.
Earlier the same court ordered Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for further investigation over sensational case liquid cocaine haul in Chittagong port rejecting the charge sheet submitted by police. In the charge sheet police dropped the name of Nur Mohammad.
On June 6, getting information from INTERPOL that in a container, cocaine was imported from Bolivia, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate in the presence of Chittagong Metropolitan Police, Chittagong Port Authority sealed off the container with 107 drums of edible oil.
On June 8 last year, the suspected container was opened and the eligible oil was examined by officials of Department of Narcotics Control. However, the Department of Narcotics Control did not find any existence of cocaine in their field level test.
So, the sample of the edible oil sent to Dhaka for further test. On June 27, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate informed that in a drum weighing 185 kg cocaine was traced.
