The BNP, yesterday, reiterated its call to the government to hold dialogues with opposition political parties, in a bid to hold a neutral election, by shunning its arrogance. “Arrogance doesn't last forever. So, the government has to hold a neutral poll though talks, by shunning its arrogance,” said BNP acting secretary-general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Addressing a discussion meeting at Photo Journalists' Association in the city, he said the country has turned into a police state. “Rights of politicians, intellectuals, and common people are no more respected. Only those in power, or those are favoured, have rights,” he said. Fakhrul’s comments came following the recent incidents of police harassment of Bangladesh Bank official Golam Rabbi and Dhaka South City Corporation staff Bikash Chandra Das. He further said the police showed audacity, saying that they are the kings of the country, like Hilsha is the king among fish. The BNP leader accused the government of using the police to suppress opposition views. Juba Jagpa, the youth organisation of Jagpa, organised the meeting, to mark its 26th Founding Anniversary. Presided over by Juba Jagpa president Faizur Rahman, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by Jagpa chief Shafiul Alam Prodhan, NPP chief Farid Uddin Farhad, and Khandaker Lutfor Rahman.
