Another case filed over B’baria mayhem
Brahmanbaria: Another case has been filed in connection with the violence in the district town over the death of a madrasah student in a triangular clash on January 12, reports UNB.
Mufti Maulana Samsul Haq, a teacher of Jamia Islamia Yunusia Madrasah filed the case against 500 unidentified people with Sadar Model Police Station on Friday night, said police. With this, a total of 12 cases have been filed over the violence, said police.
Earlier, on January 12, madrasah students went on a rampage through the district town, protesting the death of Masudur Rahman, a student of Jamia Islamia Yunusia Madrasah, who was injured in a clash on the day before.
They also vandalised 12 establishments, set fire to two others and blocked the rail tracks during their daylong violent demonstrations. At least 20 people, including Masudur, were injured in a triangular clash among the madrasah students, local traders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League over a trifling matter at Zilla Parishad Market in TT Road area on Monday evening.
31 arrested in Sunamganj
Police during an overnight drive on Friday arrested 31 people, including four activists of BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, from different parts of the district, reports UNB.
The drive continued from Friday night to Saturday morning. Abdul Momen, additional superintendent of police, said as part of the special drive for maintaining law and order, police conducted raids in different areas and arrested 31 people.
Traditional fish fair held
HABIGANJ: A day-long traditional fish fair was held at Poli village of the Sadar upazila of the district on Friday, reports BSS.
Hundreds of fish sellers and buyers and curious people from Habiganj ,Moulvibazar, Sylhet, Sunamgang, Kishoreganj and Brahmanbaria districts joined the 100-year old traditional fish fair yesterday.
Different species of indigenous fish like boal, baghaire, chital, gozar, shol, rohi, katal, puthi, chingri, koi, chapila and chanda were put on display at the fair.
A baghaire fish weighing 40 kilograms was sold at Taka 50,000 and a boal at Taka 10,000 during the fair, said Shaheb Ali, one of the organizers of the fair.
Shaheb Ali is also chairman of Poil Union Parishad.
1,000 blankets distributed 
PANCHAGARH: About 1,000 blankets were distributed among the primary students of Tetulia upazila in the district yesterday, reports BSS.
Darjipara Shishu Sargo organization distributed the blankets among the students. The organization also distributed education stipend among 14 meritorious students.
Additional deputy commissioner (general) M Mahamudul Alam distributed the blankets at a simple function on Tetulia Government Primary School premises as the chief guest. Additional superintendent of police Din Mohammad, Tetulia upazila nirbahi officer Sheikh M Belayet Hossein were present, among others.
