Bangladesh U-19 whitewash WI

Bangladesh Under-19 team whitewashed their West Indies counterparts by 16 runs in the third and final youth ODI at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong yesterday.
Bangladesh should owe much to two cricketers Saif Hasan and Sanjit Saha for earning this hard fought win over the Caribbeans. First of all opener Saif smacked an unbeaten 107 to help Bangladesh  pile up 235 for seven in stipulated 50 overs. Then it was Sanjit’s show with the leather to demolish the West Indies for 219 in 49.5 overs. He claimed five for 21.
Bangladesh earlier won the first match in Dhaka and second one in Chittagong. Bangladesh faced a stunning collapse in the top order as they lost four wickets for an addition of 88. Saif anchored the innings with able support from  Shafiul Hayat.
They added 87 runs in the fifth wicket after the home team conceded first four wickets for 88. Saif’s 147-ball innings de3coprated with 11 boundaries and three over it.  Shafiul, who was more aggressive, as he took only 69 balls to clatter nine boundaries in his 61 run knock. Wicketkeeper Zakir Hossain with 24 was the other notable scorer for junior Tigers.
OF Smith, KA Kallicharan and GD Pope claimed two wickets each for the visiting team.
The Windies opener duo  T Imlach and GD Pope gave a torrid time to Bangladesh at the beginning and it seemed that they are going to avoid whitewash. Imlach and Pope made a solid launching pad for the Windies slamming  82 off 13 overs to threaten Bangladesh to take the match with much ease.
Pope made 57 off 48 with the help of eleven shots across the ropes and one over it. Imlach contributed 38 to visitors total. In the process Windies carried their score to 97 before losing their second wicket. Sanjit appeared in the scene immediately after the first wicket and went on to run through the Windies innings taking five for 21. Abdul Halim, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Saeed Sarker and Ariful Islam took one wickets each for Bangladesh.
Although West Indies lost the series 0-3, they added valuable experience of playing in Bangladesh condition as the ICC U-19 World Cup will be held in Bangladesh from January 27.
