Govt implements pre-school to check dropout

The government is implementing a pre-primary class programme at government and non-government schools in the country aiming to cut the number of dropouts at primary level. To implement the programme the government has created 37,600 posts of teacher and ensured quality training by using the services of Upazila Research Center (URC) and Non-Government Organisation (NGO). Mujahidul Islam, superintendent, Primary Training Institute (PTI) in Bogra, said both the government and non-government schools have to ensure child friendly and colorfully decorated classrooms. “Some 120 schools in Bogra district are running pre-primary classrooms following the programme design” said Mujahidul Islam.
District Primary Education Officer (DEPO) in Bogra Hossain Ali said the rate of dropout in the district is now falling.  “Few years ago, the dropout rate was 20 percent, but now it is 13 percent,” said he.
Marina Jahan, headmistress of Bhander Paika Government Primary School in Shahazahanpur upazila, said pre-primary students normally come to the school before usual school time. “On an average, 80 percent pre-preprimary students attend the class regularly” said Marina Jahan.
The pre-primary classrooms have been decorated by specially trained teachers, who have used colorful posters and other eye-catching materials, including toys, said Mujahidul Islam.
