10,000 to be trained in shipbuilding sector in 3 years

With a view to creating skilled manpower in the shipbuilding sector, government has taken an initiative to train up 10,000 people within next three years.
Ministry of Finance inked a deal with Association of Export Oriented Shipbuilding Industries of Bangladesh (AEOSIB) in Chittagong yesterday to implement the project.
Finance ministry is providing Tk 29.42 crore to conduct the training in three phases.
The training will be conducted in 10 training centres including shipbuilding yards across the country.
The contract was signed by Jalal Ahmed, additional secretary and National Project Director of Skills for Employment Investment Programme (SEIP), Finance Division, MoF, and Sakhawat Hossain, General Secretary of AEOSIB.
A total of Tk 30, 000 will be spent for each trainee in the three months of progrmme. The trainee will get certificate after completion of the training and will get Tk 100 per day as allowance during the training period.
Some 2,000 will be trained up in the first year and 5,500 and 2,500 will be trained up in the second and third year receptively. The training includes welding and fabrication, machinery installation, machine tools operation, piping, electrical and navigation equipment installation, HVAC installation technology, painting, CNC operation, CAD and CAM and quality control.
On the occasion Jalal Ahmed said “We are depending on RMG industry in the last 20 years. Now, we are giving importance to create skill manpower in other sectors. Shipbuilding and leather industries can earn billion dollars of foreign currency.”
“We will train up more people in the sector if we will be successes in the first project,” added Jalal.
Abdur Rouf Chowdhury, additional secretary and executive project director of SEIP, Finance Division, MoF, Salauddin Kasem Khan, president of Bangladesh Employers’ Federation, Captain Habibur Rahman, project Coordinator, were present among others in the contact singing programme.
