Fire at garment rags godown
A jhut (garment rags) godown was gutted by a fire that broke out at Khailkoir in Gazipur yesterday.
Fire service sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit in the godown around 7 am and spread soon. On information, six firefighting units rushed in and extinguished the blaze after one hour of frantic efforts.
However, none was injured in the incident.
The fire brunt valuables, including some machinery, in the godown.
The affected owner of the godown claimed that the loss caused by the fire was about Tk3 lakh.
2 held with fake currency notes
Police arrested two people in possession of 27 fake currency notes amounting to Tk14,000 from Launch Ghat area in Barisal city on Friday.
The arrestees were identified as Sarwar Hossain, 20, son of Afzal Hawlader, a resident of Baraia village in Rajapur upazila, and Arif Hawlader,19, son of Amjed Hawlader, a resident of Ruptali Mahmudia Madrasah area of the city.
Assistant sub-inspector of Nani Buri police camp Nayeem said Sarwar and Arif handed some fake notes to the manager of a restaurant in the area after eating some food items in the morning. As the currency notes raised doubt in them, the restaurant owner informed it to the police.
